Week 5
This week was another productive week. On Wednesday (Feb 1,2023) I was able to briefly meet Oz Ozmen, the producer from Race Service. I was also able to to restructure my paper and make a clear outline that I can follow and succeed. I decided to focus on how for brands, their story is more important than the actual product. Therefore, producers can come up with ideas for different stories that fit the brand narratives and use them as advertisements for the brand. Many companies do that. In my research, the biggest and most prominent one is RedBull. This company has produced a massive amounts of documentaries and short series, they sponsor many different events, but it’s never about the product, it’s always about the story. Another phenomenon that I have researched is Formula 1. F1 was not popular in the United States and when Liberty Media took over everything, they decided, together with Netflix, to produce a dramatized docuseries with all the teams and drivers. This boosted the sport’s popularity and therefore the viewership of the races increased.
This week I also met again with Cary to discuss his documentary. We met with Debora McClune to go over the shooting schedule and getting permits. I helped him narrow done his idea and come up with new ideas so he has more than just talking heads.
This week I was also able to set up another meeting with Oz Ozmen. I will be meeting him on Thursday at Race Service.
I am currently in the process of finding other people to interview.
